On May 9th, a small group of AlWood 6th grade students traveled to the state capitol to take part in the Students for Innovation Advocacy Day sponsored by the Illinois Digital Educators Alliance. Students shared how they use technology in the classroom with legislators and highlighted some of their projects from this year. The students had the opportunity to meet with Representatives Dan Swanson and Travis Weaver. One activity they shared were 3D models they created of Egyptian Tombs from the Valley of Kings as part of their study of Ancient Egypt. Additionally, they showcased some 3D printing projects they have completed in science class. The goal of the event was to demonstrate to legislators how state tax dollars are being used to benefit students and prepare them for careers in the future.
